4 Ways to Help an NGO

mãos dadas

Many people want to help third-sector entities, such as non-governmental organizations (NGOs), but do not know how they can be supportive. One of the options is the donation of money, but this form of help still causes a lot of mistrust. Is the NGO serious? Will the money be well used?

The fact is that these organizations need citizens' solidarity to continue to help others regardless of the segment to which they are directed. Government support, most of the time, covers little of the monthly spending.

In this post, we show four ways to help an NGO. We highlight how to make the cash donation safely and the importance of this type of help. Follow and see how easy it is to be supportive!

1. Money donation

There are those who want to donate money to institutions, but fear to help in this way. The tip is to do a thorough research on the NGO before you help: you can visit, collect data over the internet or via phone, get information on monthly expenses and check if there is a philanthropic record.

Of course, every kind of donation is welcome, but these entities need money to cover the expenses of the activities of their social projects. Thus, the financial help of society is very important.

After making sure the organization is suitable, you should find out about the best ways to donate money: payment slip, deposit or credit card, often directly over the internet. Some NGOs have shops and sell products with their brands.

Allocation of income tax

Did you know that you can allocate up to 3% of the income tax payable or refundable to social entities? The Brazilian Federal Revenue Service (RFB) offers a guide with information for anyone who wants to take advantage of this opportunity to be in solidarity.

2. Voluntary work

Another way to help is with volunteer work. How about giving some of your time to help an NGO? It may be companionship for the elderly in an asylum, telling stories to children living in shelters, or even cooking meals for groups that cater to homeless people.

3. Donation of clothing and toys

Do you know that periodic cleaning in cabinets to remove items that are not used anymore? To make the correct destination of these objects, take them to an NGO. After all, clothes, shoes and toys in good condition can be used by other people.

There are entities that receive any kind of material, including furniture, to make bazaars. Many of them collect the pieces directly from the donor's house. Inquire!

4. Event help

You can still be supportive of NGO events. Many of them do lunches, dinners, bazars and bingo halls, and need help to advertise, sell invitations and even work on meal preparation, housekeeping, and so on.

Now you know some ways to help third-party entities. The donation of money is undoubtedly one of the most important, so check your budget and see how much you can spend to help this social work.

The ways of doing good are diverse! Find the one that most fits your profile and is useful for the social work of the entities. Are you interested in being supportive? Get to know the Laço Rosa Foundation and see how tocontribute!
