Couple over comes breast cancer together

A curious case happened in Cleveland, in the United States, a couple was diagnosed with the same type of breast cancer, with only 6 months apart.

According to Jane, 66, after being diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma (a type of breast cancer), she was not as nervous as she already knew the path that awaited her. That's because her 75-year-old husband, Ken, was already being treated for the same diagnosis, in the same breast and with the tumor in a stage and size quite similar to Jane's.

The couple's oncologist, Dr. Jaime Abraham, said that in 16 years of profession, this is the first time he has witnessed such a case.

The difference between them is that Jane will perform surgery for breast reconstruction.

Although male breast cancer is rare, less than 1% of diagnoses in a year, it is important to be alert to body signals and perform medical follow-up. When detected early, breast cancer has about 95% chance of cure, so it’s important to know and care for your body.

"Life is life, and it has ups and downs and you just have to take it as it comes," says Jane. "[…] Ken is my best friend. And I think I'm probably his best friend and we ended up going through everything together. "
