How sorority can generate transformation

Women have been acquiring piece by piece their space, but there’s still much to do. The patriarchal society still see women as someone fragile and less capable but know that it’s possible to turn this game around with sorority.

That’s right! Even though it’s a strange word and still less known by many people, it reflects empathy and union between women. It’s a relation of mutual support that can create transformations in society.

Do you want to understand better what is sorority, why it can help women in different aspects and how to put this concept use? Carry on with our post!

What is sorority?

If you look up on more traditional dictionaries, maybe you still won’t find the word sorority. However, we will explain its meaning: It’s a concept similar to fraternity but for women. Just replace the Latin terms “frater” (brother) for “soror” (sister).

Therefore, it means companionship, empathy and mutual support between women and it comes to change the culture in which women are always rivals and that it’s only possible to have a true friendship between men or that in a place with women only there’ll certainly be a fight. Women surely can have a strong and good bond and thus help each other.

How can it change women’s life?

With sorority, that is, when there’s a bond formation between women, they can gain strength, voice and become more respected by the society.

Thereby, even women start to have new views about other women and will, for example, think twice before judging someone just because they have a different opinion. Another situation is to have a firm stance and avoid women being mocked or despised, either in a real life conversation or on social media.

You can also value the female work by choosing products and services of a female entrepreneur or choosing to contact a woman in your business. You can also help NGOs with donations and volunteer work that are focused on the female public.

This sisterhood can be crucial mostly on more complex situations – when a woman identifies that the other is a victim of abuse and offers to help.

What kinds of actions uphold on this concept?

Sorority can be practiced in all kinds of ways. A good example comes from the Laço Rosa Foundation, an entity that helps women with breast cancer and that launched Pink Sorority, a campaign that supports these patients and their families.

To participate is quite easy, just access the movement’s website, donate one of the values and create your ID under the surname “Pink”. After that just share it on your social media with #Pink Sorority.

The campaign is already a success and has the support of various celebrities – such as Juliana Paes, Fernanda Gentil, Isabelle Drummond, entre outros.

What about you? Are you ready to strengthen this bond between women and practice sorority? It is a need to change the culture and that will only be possible with this bond!
